Despite the name of the society ‘Harrison Lake Historical Society’ the majority of the members were residents of Agassiz, prompting the group to vote on changing their name. Through a ballot they came to a decision and officially became, the ‘Agassiz-Harrison Historical Society’ which better encompassed the current group, the future of the society, and the legacy that they would leave.

In June of 1982, the society created and displayed it’s first exhibit, in a mini-museum. They had three display cases, between the basement room at the Agassiz Municipal Hall, and what is now known as the Harrison Hot Springs information Centre. The artifacts were donated by the citizens of Kent and represented the residents' families and history. The exhibit was only open for a limited time every week, from 2:00pm - 4:00pm on Fridays and Saturdays. During this time rumours started to be spread about the CPR getting rid of the Agassiz Railway Station, as it was no longer needed and had been getting phased out and inquiries and discussions began for the Agassiz-Harrison Historical Society obtaining it.
