1986 - 1987

The Agassiz-Harrison Historical Society Museum opened on May 2, 1986. The Local Motive Giftshop opened a month later, in June. This year, also marked the first year of their annual general meeting and their first society election for Board of Directors including Board President Joyce McRae during this time. Programs began during this time, such as advertising for residents to inquire about their family trees and their history in the area and weekly events in the Winter where residents would gather to listen to and share stories.

The museum quickly became a place that represented the Agassiz people and community. In 1989, CPRail donated the caboose to the museum. A set of tracks was laid to display the vehicle beside the museum.
